I don’t like to use the word trends, as I believe when it comes to celebrating your love story there are no rules you have to follow, it’s your day and you should celebrate it in a way that reflects the two of you.  Trends aren’t there to define your wedding, they act as inspiration for you to create a day that’s truly personal to the two of you.

Over the year’s weddings have evolved from the traditional ceremony service, speeches and sit down dinner wedding breakfast.  These days there are so many options for the modern couple to celebrate their love, from church and celebrant-led ceremonies to standing drink receptions and no speeches.

With 2020 just around the corner, here are some of my predictions of what I think we’ll see in the coming year:

Wedding dresses – we’ll find brides opting for more non-traditional dresses such as bridal suits, contrasting colour dress details and textured fabrics such as tulle.  For those that want a different look for their reception they might have a second or multiple dresses for their wedding, following in the footsteps of some A list celebrities.

Sustainability & eco-friendly weddings – with a higher awareness of climate change and damage to the planet, more sustainable and eco-friendly weddings will be a hot topic in the coming year.  2019 saw an increase in foam-free florals which will continue into 2020, collecting RSVPs via a personalised wedding website is a great way cutting back on paper waste; group coach transfers between ceremony and reception sites cuts down on guests’ carbon footprint; vegan menus using locally sourced produce and plastic-free weddings will feature heavily, along with locally-sourced seasonal flowers.

Outdoor weddings – hosting guests outside is a trend we will see more of in 2020. Using all of the outside space for a drinks reception and dinner combines the formality of an indoor reception with the casualness of the outdoors.

Food stations & grazing tables – creative and more interactive food service for your guests, with food stations focussing on seasonal, locally sourced produce.  Grazing tables are a great way to bring people and are perfect as an alternative to canapes or starters.

Wedding décor – a bigger emphasis on the details is something we will see in 2020 – balloon walls and wall art murals provide great backdrops for photos; coloured cutlery such as black or gold rather than the traditional silver and we’ll see more textured and detailed linens.  The escapism of fairy lights and chandeliers under trees is also something we will see more of 2020.

Multi day celebrations – we’ll see a lot more of multi-day event weddings, with BBQ’s or a dinner the day before the wedding, commonly known in the USA as a rehearsal dinner, and post wedding brunches the day after the wedding.
